David Fischer A good cover artwork is half the battle - Monarque's EP garnered my attention thanks to that. The even more important half is the quality of music itself - and Jusqu'à la Mort is an excellent piece of atmospheric black metal, more than living up to the gracious cover art. Very melodic and highly atmospheric all the way through; while all three songs are meeting high quality requirements, Le Grand Deuil is an obvious standout for me. Invigorating 22 minutes. The orchestration is top notch! Favorite track: Le Grand Deuil.

Maison Planàterre Ouf! L'écoute du Titre 'Le grand deuil' m'a ébahi ('flabergasté' en bon queb). Un deuil, par définition, ça implique une douleur qui peut s'exprimer de maintes façons. Alors un grand deuil implique beaucoup de recueillements et de souffrances. La musique de Monarque image bien les tiraillements liés à 'Un grand deuil'. Ça fait mal, et souvent ça vient nous chercher jusque dans les entrailles. Par chance que le passage du temps atténue l'acuité et la fréquence de ces sentiments douloureux. Favorite track: Le Grand Deuil.

Mikolaj is a real multi-talent in bass as well as guitar as well as vocals and "Darkside" Maciej's drumming is a well-calibrated 100th-of-seconds-clockwork. La traversée du désert n'aura pas duré quarante jours mais quatre longues années... Avec Панихида, Батюшка renaît enfin de ses cendres et, bien que désormais seul (ou plus exactement entouré de deux chanteurs), Христофор accomplit un miracle. Il s'inscrit dans la continuité de Литоургиiа avec un black metal orthodoxe qui nous convie ici à une cérémonie dédiée aux morts. Sa vision est englobante : les mélodies, la gravité et le silence font toucher le paradis ; l'agressivité est luciférienne. Jordan Vauvert
